Two of the country's most influential political parties the Nacionalista Party (NP) and Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) signed an agreement to work together under the administration of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who will assume office as President of the Republic of the Philippines this coming July 2016.

Former Senate President and NP Leader Manny Villar together with PDP-Laban President  Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III signed the "coalition for change agreeement," on Monday afternoon, May 16, 2016, in the presence of Mayor Duterte in Davao City.

The signing of agreement between NP and PDP-Laban happened at the end of Mayor Duterte's press conference at the Matina Enclaves clubhouse in Davao City, the temporary Malacanang of the South set up by the camps of Mayor Duterte.

Sen. Manny Villar was accompanied by his wife, Sen. Cynthia Villar and their son Mark Villar. According to some political analysts, Nacionalista Party (NP) is considered as the country's oldest political party.

Mayor Duterte on his part is a member of the PDP-Laban party, he was proclaimed as the party's chairman last February 9. According to the camp of the presumptive president, Mayor Duterte, the signing of the deal is significant because the president needs legislative backing while serving as president.

NP Chairman Manny Villar also noted that the signing of the deal signifies a willingness for both parties to cooperate with one another in bringing out reforms under the Duterte administration.
