Jesus Dureza: Mayor Duterte's Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process

Jesus "Jess" Dureza is considered as one of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's closest friend and former classmate during his elementary and high school days in Davao City. During the political sorties of Mayor Duterte, Jess Dureza is always part of the presumptive president's comedic speeches.






The lawyer from Mindanao is best known for his achievement in the peace process between the Ramos Administration and the Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) as the presidential adviser on the Peace Process in Mindanao.

Here's Some of the Most Important Facts About Jesus Dureza:

1. Placed 10th in the Philippine Bar exams of 1973, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the Ateneo de Davao University. He practiced law as Senior Partner of the RAMA, DUREZA and ABARQUEZ Law Firm.

2.He was a chairperson on the Mindanao Development Authority 2009-2010

3. National Programme director, United Nations Development Programe UNDP-ACT for Peace Programme 2006-2010

4. He has appointed as Press Secretary of Malacañang, June 16,2008 until 2009


5.  Appointed as Presidential adviser on the peace process in Mindanao

6. He was a law professor at the Ateneo De Davao University.

7. He was the President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Davao del Sur Chapter from 1985-1987.

8. He was the Spokesman of President Fidel V. Ramos (1999-2000)

9. He was the Spokesman of the House of Representatives (1987-1989 and 1992-1995).

10. Member of the 9th Congress of the Philippines july 27 1992 – June 9 1995 as the Representative of the First (1st) district of Davao City.

11. Member of the 8th Congress of the Philippines 1987 – July 1989 as the Representative of the First (1st) district of Davao City.

12. He was a TV host (“Brainstorm”, a program in Davao City, 1985-1987).

13. He was an editor of Mindanao Times (1972-1987) and a correspondent of Manila Bulletin and Manila Times (1973-1987 and 1967-1972).

14. He was the regional chairman (Region XI) of the Publisher’s Association of the Philippines (1992) and the President of Davao Press Club, Inc. (1972).

15. He was one of the infamous Negotiator’s in 1989 DaPeCol hostage taking. During the said hostage crisis, Mayor Duterte claimed he planned to shoot at the remaining four hostages until Congressman Jesus Dureza intervened. The lawmaker informed then President Corazon Aquino of Duterte’s plan who in turn called Duterte and asked him to resolve the hostage situation peacefully.
