Mayor Duterte's Achievement in Davao City for the PNP Will Be Copied Nationwide
Presumptive President of the Republic of the Philippines Mayor Rodrigo Duterte made some amazing achievement in the City of Davao particularly in the Philippine National Police as he raised the standards of policing in the city. Mayor Duterte plans to copy his achievement in the police force in Davao City and integrate it with other police forces nationwide.
Under the present administration of Pres. Aquino, the Police force in Manila is so underfunded by as confirmed by a Police Officer assigned in the nation's capital. The police officer revealed that they have to buy their own bullets and it is not uncommon for funeral service cars to give cops a lift along to murder scenes because they have no vehicles of their own.
Mayor Rodrigo Duterte aims to change the public's perception of Police officers as he promised during his campaign sorties that he will double the salaries of the police officers under his administration. The present salaries of police officers this year is as low as P18,000 ($390) a month.
When the camp of Mayor Rody Duterte was asked by the media on where they will get the funds to increase the salaries of the PNP members, Peter Tiu Lavina revealed that they will find a way for the source of the funds.
According to official data from the PNP during the year 2012, the ratio of Police officers to civilians is 651:1, the data is really worrisome compared to the Philippines neighbors, in Thailand the ratio is 302:1, and in Malaysia 267:1. The Philippine government also budgeted 88.1 billion pesos ($1.89 billion) for the police officer this year, up around 13 percent from 2015 but it is still too little compared to the 160,000 PNP Members.
Under the Duterte administration, Police Officers from various parts of the country will no longer be buying their own bullets as what they have usually done since the year 1990's. According to Capt. Rommel Anicete, chief of Manila Police District Homicide Division, they split the cost of getting two air-conditioners serviced and share a couple of ageing computers and revealed that they are always short of paper for their printer and have no photocopier.
