President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his first-ever State of the Nation Address on Monday July 25, 2016. The SONA of President Duterte is considered as one of the most direct to the point address of any Philippine President.

Opening of the 17th Congress:

Sen. Koko Pimentel was voted as the new Senate President of the Philippine Senate while former Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon is now the new Senate Pro-Tempore and Sen. Tito Sotto is now the Majority Floor Leader.

In the Lower House, Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez was voted as the new House Speaker, the Davao del Norte First District Representative clinches a landslide victory with 251 votes.

Duterte: Fingerpointing is not the way:
Pres. Rody Duterte was quoted as saying "We cannot move forward if we allow the past to pull us back. Fingerpointing is not the way. That is why I will not waste precious time dwelling on the sins of the past."

Duterte: No separation between Church and State
"Let me assure you that while I'm a stickler for the principle of separation between church and state, I believe there should never be a separation between God and state."

Duterte Vows to Continue Fight against Drugs
