San Beda College of Law Dean Lambasts CBCP for Using Sen. De Lima as Human Rights Poster Girl

One of the country's most prestigious Law School in the country, the San Beda College of Law disapproved on the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) choice of Sen. Leila De Lima as it's poster girl or CBCP's primary advocate of human rights.

San Beda Law School Dean Fr. Ranhilio Aquino frowned on CBCP's seeming glorification of Sen. Leila De Lima who was accused by numerous crimes involving her participation in the drug trade inside the Bilibid Prison.

Fr. Aquino lambasts the CBCP after a photo of Senator De Lima speaking at the pulpit after a mass was held at the CBCP headquarters' chapel was posted on social media.

Sen. Leila De Lima spoke about his opposition to death penalty following the mass. When the San Beda Law School Dean was asks by some netizens, whether it was right for a politiko to use the chapel to speak on their advocacies, Aquino even stated "There are others who could have been invited to speak against death penalty."

Fr. Aquino added further that "Why no invite a moral "Why not invite a moral theologian? Why not invite an international law expert? Why de Lima at a time that she is under fire? The priests could have made a better choice,” he added.

Since attending the mass at the CBCP chapel, De Lima has been visiting prominent Catholic schools in Metro Manila to talk about human rights and death penalty.

Unsurprisingly, she also mentions in her speech her supposed vilification by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte and the administration’s alleged attempt to persecute her.
