DSWD Sec. Judy Taguiwalo Explains the Foreign Policy of Pres. Rody Duterte

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, one of the few Cabinet members appointed by President Rody Duterte from the left-leaning activist groups explained during one of her press conference the foreign policy of the first Philippine President from Mindanao.

According to DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo the message of President Duterte on Independent Foreign Policy is very clear. We do not want to deal with countries who treat us as second class citizens, who treat us like little brown brothers, but we are open to building a relationship based on mutual benefit and non-interference in our internal affairs.

Sec. Judy Taguiwalo added further that "Dapat yan ang palakpakan natin. Matagal na natin hinihintay yang independent foreign policy," the DSWD Secretary stated.

Pres. Rody Duterte became the target of criticisms after his so-called "pivot to China" in announcing the Philippines' foreign policy with various countries. For the very first time in the history of the Philippines, Pres. Rody Duterte wanted to have a balance of foreign policy by opening the country to both China and Russia.

During the visit of Pres. Duterte in China he also announced his separation with the United States in both military and economics but clarified that he will not severe ties with the US.
