Japan PM Shinzo Abe Admires Pres. Duterte on His Popularity in Japan

The Prime Minister of one of the world's leading economies, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan admires President Rody Duterte because of his popularity in Japan and he noted before their bilateral meeting that he was excited to meet with the Philippine President.



Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Philippine President Rody Duterte met during the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos for a bilateral meeting between the two allies.

In a news report posted by Rappler, Prime Minister Abe said his congratulations through a translator "President Duterte, I would like to congratulate you on assuming the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines."

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe added his excitement to meet the famous Duterte figure "Mr. President is quite a famous figure also in Japan, and I am very excited to see you in person."

During the Japanese Prime Minister's statement with his appreciation for the Philippine President, the diplomats also shared their excitement and made a round of applause for the Japanese and Filipino leaders.

The Japanese Prime Minister also extends his heartfelt condolences to the tragedy the hometown of Pres. Duterte, Davao City, suffered last week killing at least 15 people and injuring around 70 innocent civilians.

Prime Minister Abe was quoted as saying "First of all, I would like to underscore that Japan firmly deplores the terror incident which took place in Davao the other day. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt condolences for the victims and their family members and also I'd also like to reiterate my feelings of sympathy for you." PM Abe said.
