Pres. Duterte Plans to Buy Armed Helicopters and Fast Crafts

The Armed Forces of the Philippines will continue the modernization program but they focus on internal security threat according to AFP chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya revealed in a press conference. The incoming President Rody Duterte plans to modernize the Armed Forces but they will implement a different strategy.



Under President Duterte, Gen. Visaya's marching order is to implement modernization by buying equipment for internal security like Armed Helicopters and Fast Crafts.

The plans of the AFP under Pres. Duterte is to improve the internal security of the country, the new equipment are useful in dealing with the country's ongoing campaign against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and the New People's Army threats.

The incoming AFP Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Visaya noted that the said acquisition of equipment are included in the AFP Modernization Program as empphasized by the procurement of the night-capable AW-109 attack helicopters of the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy.

Contrary to some bias reportings by some news media agency, Gen. Visaya also clarified that the modernization program for External Threats will continue but the equipment for internal security operations will be prioritize.
