Korean Business Delegation to Explore Opportunities for the Ambitious New Clark City Project

A group of South Korean business delegation will be visiting the Philippines to explore opportunities arising from the government's infrastructure-building program under the Duterte administration, including the potential projects in New Clark City located in Capas, Tarlac.

According to South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Han Dong-man, the Korean delegations considers Tarlac's New Clark City located in the former Clark Air Base property, as a potential entry point for participating in the infrastructure program. The South Korean delegation visited Clark Freeport Zone and New Clark City on Monday.

The Korean delegation to the Philippines headed by Ambassador Dong-man revealed during an interview with some local media that South Korea is currently focused on Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines under the "New Southern Policy," of Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Pres. Jae-in made it clear that the southern policy emphasizes infrastructure projects, especially in transport, energy, water management and ICT (information and communication technology)," the Ambassador said.

Ambassador Dong-man noted that he thinks there are many areas of cooperation between South Korea and the Philippines now and in the near future. Pres. Moon of Korea expressed his intention last November to refocus on Southeast Asia, given South Korea's status as a potential partner for the regional bloc under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership scheme.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Raul S. Hernandez said that aside from the nfrastructure and energy investments the Philippines will be expecting from South Korea, the government has set a target to increase trade.

Considering the fact that Korea is the 7th largest investor in the Philippines, the national government under the leadership of Pres. Duterte wants to increase Korea's investment to the country, that's why we have a lot of outbound and inbound missions from Korea.

The Duterte admin's cooperation with South Korea is aim to make sure that the people and companies know exactly the opportunities in the Philippines, where they can make money especially during Pres. Duterte's ambitious "Build, Build, Build" program. The Philippine infrastructure program hopes to spend around P8 trillion to P9 trillion until 2022, covering 70 big-ticket projects.
